Self-Inflicted Gun Wound Fatal To Thomas Schillinger; Thomas Benjamin Schillinger, who was despondent over ill health, attempted to commit suicide on Friday evening by firing a .38 caliber revolver bullet into his temple, died from the effects of his wound at 5:45 pm on Saturday. Schillinger was taken to Mercy Hospital when he was discovered by his son, Wilbur, at 5 pm Friday in the garage of his home at 522 Clay Street. His condition was pronounced critical until the time of his death. He was born in Richfield, MI on March 16, 1899 and moved to Glendale, Michigan while still a child. He came to Benton Harbor in 1931, where he married Miss Ruth Mae Johnson on December 4, 1922. Schillinger had been employed at the City Cab Company as a mechanic for the past five years and was a member of the local Moose Lodge. Besides his wife, two children, Wilbur Laverne and Shirley Ann live at home. One other son, Ralph LeRoy, S2C is stationed at Pearl Harbor. Sisters and brothers are Mrs. Harold Young and Byron J. Schillinger of Bento Harbor; Mrs. Ralph Adams of Paw Paw; Mrs. Ernest Tessman, Paw Paw, and Charles Schillinger. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body is at the Dean Mortuary where friend may call.
