Obituary from the Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home
Richard "Dick" L. Wackerman, age 85, passed away at home in Boerne, TX on September 18, 2019, following several months of declining health. He was born in Adrian, MO on August 20, 1934, to parents Harry and Alferna Wackerman. Married to wife Barbara for 64 years, Richard moved to Boerne following his retirement in 1994. He lived his last 26 years happily surrounded by the beautiful hill country and beloved family and pets.

Richard is survived by his wife, Barbara Lou (Phillips) Wackerman; daughter, Denise Barker and husband Mike; son, Mark Wackerman and wife Kaye; and daughter, Lori Lavallee. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kaitlin, Michael, Jennifer, Hannah and Chris. He is preceded in death by parents, Harry and Alferna (McKeaigg) Wackerman and siblings, William Wackerman, Mary Sloup, Peggy Martin and Jerry Wackerman.

Richard graduated from Enid High School in 1952 and went on to complete his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1959 from Oklahoma State University. During the Korean War, he served in the US Army. Richard worked as a chemical engineer for Phillips Petroleum in the Texas Panhandle, Sinclair Coppers in Houston, as a plant manager for Northern Petrochemical in Illinois, and ExxonMobil Chemical both in Houston and Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. From there, he and Barbara traveled the world. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners, served on the board of Boerne's Family Services, and volunteered at Magdalena House.

Richard will be remembered for his steadfast faith, dedication to his family, and loyalty to his friends. He participated in church and Sunday school, loved debates on any topic, and was an avid athlete and sports fan. Known as 'Mighty Mouse' on his high school basketball team, he helped them win the Oklahoma State Championship. He played minor league baseball in Liberal, KS and coached little league. An avid alumnus of OSU, he followed their team faithfully wherever he lived. Richard loved to build things; it didn't matter if it was ethylene plants or furniture for his grandchildren. He gardened avidly and his green thumb produced bushel baskets of produce year-round. He could always solve the problem set before him without fanfare or "instructions". However, his most important purpose in life was as one who provided for and loved his family unconditionally. His lifelong devotion to his wife, children and grandchildren was unwavering.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Boerne, 205 James Street, Boerne, TX 78006.
