Francis Binyoun Drage was born on 16th September 1866 in Hannington, Northamptonshire. The eldest of 6 children born to Binyoun Francis Drage (a Farmer) and Elizabeth Drage (nee Woods). Brother to Herbert Drage (b. 1867), John Drage (b. 1869), Helen Woods Drage (b. & d. 1871), Mary Elizabeth Drage (b. 1873) and Nellie Drage (b. 1881).

Veterinary Captain Francis Binyoun Drage served with the Royal Horse Guards during the Boer War 1899 - 1903 and was awarded the following;
Campaign medals: Queens South Africa Medal, Kings South Africa Medal
Clasps awarded: Relief Of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill, Wittenbergen.

From 1901 onwards Francis travelled frequently between England and the USA.

Captain Francis B. Drage married Lucy Griffin Christie (of Missouri, USA) on 12th November 1901 in Kansas City, Jackson, Missouri, USA. They had 3 children; Charles Christie Binyoun Drage (b. 1902 in Missouri, USA), David Wilfrid Drage (b. 1904 in Berkshire, England) and Elizabeth Eda Drage (b. 1905 in Missouri, USA).

Lucy Drage (nee Christie) was a co-founder of the national Bundles-for-Britain movement (USA) in WW2, and for many years operated her own business, the Lucy Drage Interior Decorating Inc., a prestigious firm that decorated the biggest and finest homes in the area of Kansas City, Missouri, USA.

Francis was recorded as a Veterinary Major in the Royal Horse Guards on 18th July 1903.

On 2nd April 1911, aged 44, Major Francis B Drage of the Royal Horse Guards, was living with his wife and young family at 'Oaklands' in Maidenhead, Berkshire.

Francis was recorded as a Veterinary Lieutenant Colonel (Substantive) in the Royal Horse Guards, Reserve of Officers, on 18th July 1911.

In January 1920, aged 53, Francis B. Drage, President of a Coal Company, was living with his wife and children in Kansas City, Jackson, Missouri, USA.

An article in The Kansas City Times, Jan 14, 1935, reporting on a fire badly damaging his wife's former family home, also mentions 'Colonel Francis B. Drage, a retired officer of the English Army, who manages his brother's estate at Chapel Brampton [Grange], Northampton, England.'
