Jewish War Veteran

After World War II, Burt worked for Dupler's Furs and later as a meat packer. The dates are sketchy.

In the years to follow, Burt worked for the Pic-a-Rib barbeque restaurant in Denver, Colorado located at Broadway near 16th Street, not too far from City Park. Ike Leavitt owned the place until it closed. Following the many years affiliated with Pic-a-Rib, Burt was hired by his uncle Johnny Weinreich in the early 1960's who had just opened Monaco Lanes in southeast Denver on Leetsdale Drive.

The restaurant planned for Monaco was a barbeque format and Burt hired on (along with another former Pic-a-Rib stalwart, Percy Branson and later Pat Busto). The unique Pic-a-Rib barbeque sauce recipe was deeded over to Burt when the owner died. It was that special sauce and the barbeque concept at Monaco that made it a destination restaurant for the southeast Denver community. It was successful from the start and people still talk fondly of Burt, Percy, and Pat and the barbeque brisket, ribs and related side dishes served there for many years. And, even today, everyone wants that recipe.

Burt died at the age of 72 from ALS. He was cremated but his cremains were interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery

Served In the Navy--SM3 US Navy World War II. Served on the USS Boise.

On August 2, 2017, a virtual stranger found a photo of Burt's wife Ruchel when she was 8-months old. The photo was found in a thrift shop in Boise, Idaho, a day after Ruchel's birthday. Coincidentally, husband Burt served on the USS Boise during World War II. There are no coicidences. Steve
