Savannah was the only wife of Lewis M. Quarles ( 1869-1955). They had six children. Mattie Quarles who died as an infant, Eula, Rose, Bessie & Dessie (Twins), and Lewis "Emuel". Emuel went to live with his grand parents, David and Hannah Quarles, after his mother died. He was 6 months old. Savannah passed away at an early age from a ruptured appendix. Bessie was my Great Grandmother and spent many days with her as I grew up. She told me stores and I wrote them down, including this information about her mother Savannah. The first time photographed this stone was on April 15, 1981 when my grandmother (Bessie's daughter) took me to the grave. The darker image was taken in September 2021 when I retraced the old photo to verify the cemetery. Lewis Quarles is buried in the Veterans Cemetery in Cleveland, Rhea County, TN. Savannah was the daughter of James Evan Butler (1847-1900) and Martha (Mattie) J. Bradford Butler (1847 - )
