Funeral services for Melvin R. Ashley of Sawyer were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2004, in Mt. Olive Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bennie Hammons officiating. Interment was in Sawyer Cemetery.
Mr. Ashley died Friday, May 7, 2004, at his residence in Sawyer. He was 84.
Melvin R. Ashley was born July 9, 1919 in Norman, the son of C.J. & Lillie (Eppler) Ashley. He worked as a truck driver for Southwestern Oil Field, Gifford & Hill, and Parker Brothers. He had lived in this area for the past 22 years, moving up from Houston, Texas. He married Norma F. Nelson on August 26, 1966 in Conroe, Texas. He was preceded in death by one sister: Ossie Box.
Surviving relatives: Wife, Norma Ashley of the home; (Married Norman Faye Nelson Draper August 26, 1966 in Conroe, Texas.) three daughters, Jo Dean Ashley of California, Joyce Dale Galloway of Rodgers, Texas, and Caroline Ashley of Houston; son, Buddy Ashley of Houston; a stepson and 2 stepdaughters; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Services under the direction of Mt. Olive Funeral Home Chapel.
