Mrs. Essie H. Jordan, age 98, of Rockmart, died Thursday, February 11, 1999, at her residence. She was born March 12, 1900, in Hall County, GA. She was a retired Rockmart High School science teacher and a member of Rockmart First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy W. Jordan and her parents, James and Sarah Tanner Hudgins. She is survived by: two daughters, Marilyn J. Jackson of Rockmart and Patricia J. Nixon of Doraville; four sisters, Sarah Tankersley and Dorothy Shaw, both of Gainesville, Margorie Morris of Decatur, and Marily Cantrell of Anderson, S.C.; eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 13, 1999 at 2 p.m. from Rockmart First Baptist Church, with Rev. David Taylor officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill Cemetery. The following grandsons served as pallbearers: Olin Jackson, David Jackson, Hal Bradley, Dave Bradley, Jimmy Hughes, Richard Oettinger and Greg Morris. Freeman Harris Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
