Eldon D. Faries, age 81, of Spring, Texas passed into the arms of Jesus on September 27, 2021 at his home after a prolonged illness.

Eldon was born in Woodward, Oklahoma on February 4, 1940, and in his early years his father was an evangelist and the family moved frequently. Eventually, they settled in Cave Springs, Arkansas where he attended a one room schoolhouse taught by his mother and was eventually offered a job by Sam Walton!

His family moved to central Texas, where he graduated from Tivy High School in Kerrville. He then attended Schreiner Institute and though he had interest in theater and music, he began to concentrate on art. He had several art jobs in the area and was even offered a position by James Avery!

He began attending The University of Texas in 1959 and later graduated with an Bachelor's of Art and Master's degree. During this time, he met his future wife, Virginia Stringer in a Sunday School class. They were married in a double wedding with her sister and her husband (Paul and Paulette Broyles) on August 15, 1964.

Eldon and Virginia moved to Bloomington, Indiana to begin teaching at University School and later Bloomington North High School. He continued his education in doctoral work at Indiana University and became interested in watercolor painting. His continued interest in theater led to set design for the high schools and local theater.

He and Virginia were music and youth directors at their church, First Assembly of God, Bloomington and were blessed to make lifelong friends there. Their two children, Diana Gayle and Dwane Keith, were born while they lived in Indiana.

In 1979, they moved to Spring, Texas to be close to family and Eldon taught numerous drawing, painting, design and jewelry students at Klein High School for 24 years. He was also involved with set design at Champion Forest Baptist Church for their annual Passion plays.

During this time, he was active in the Watercolor Art Society of Houston and won several awards. His paintings have hung in numerous shows and galleries across the nation. He also taught many adult watercolor classes and workshops and was beloved by his students.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. Faries and Lucile Ludden Faries, and his parents-in-law, P.P. and Queen Esther Stringer; brother-in-law, Paul James Broyles, II and his sister-in-law, Judi Dubber Faries.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Stringer Faries; children Diana Faries Wurster (Scot) and Dwane Keith Faries; siblings Dilllard Faries (Sally), Glayron Faries, and Allen Faries (Cindy); sister-in-law Paulette Broyles and brother-in-law Paul Stringer (Brenda); four grandchildren, Angela Chantalle Ellis (Justin), Michael Scot Wurster (Mysie), Skye Donovan Faries, and Madeline Nicole Wurster; four great-grandchildren, Justin Paul Ellis, Jr, Harlee Ann Ellis, Claire Scot Wurster and Avonlea Noel Wurster; numerous nieces and nephews.
