The sad news was received in this city early this morning, telling of the sudden death at Crowley, La., of Mr. Rufus M. Gray, of 1026 Barrister street, Alexandria, who died at the home of his sister, Mrs. L. J. Breaux, at 9:50 p.m., Tuesday, November 20, 1928.

Mr. Gray was taken ill with a stroke of apoplexy at 5 p.m., and his family in this city was notified, and they left shortly after 7 o'clock by auto for Crowley. The remains were brought to this city today and the funeral was held at 2 o'clock this afternoon from the family residence in Barrister street, interment being made in Greenwood Memorial Park, Pineville. The services was conducted by the Rev. W. S. Slack, rector of St. James' Episcopal church.

Mr. Gray was traveling salesman for a machine and implement company of Dallas, and was on one of his trips when he was taken sick. He was for some time in the automobile business here. He was a native of Poplar Creek, Miss., born there June 12, 1878, therefore being 50 years of age. He moved to Crowley, La., when a boy, and the family came to Alexandria eight years ago.

Mr. Gray is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. Ed L. Morgan, Miss Lois Gray, R. M. Gray, Jr., Herbert and Emmett Gray, all of Alexandria. He also leaves his aged father, Mr. J. W. Gray of Crowley, two sisters and four brothers. They are Mrs. L. J. Breaux and Mrs. R. H. Roller, of Crowley; Dr. W. O. Gray and J. A. Gray of Chicago; S. T. Gray, of Abilene, Texas, and Earl Gray, of Lake Charles, La.

The deceased was a member of the Masonic fraternity, being a Royal Arch Mason, and is also a member of the Woodmen of the World. He was a member of the Baptist faith from boyhood.

Mr. Gray was a genial and kindly man, who had many friends, all over the State, who will be pained to hear of his untimely death, and will sympathize with the family in their bereavement.
