Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2007 at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel in Crowley for Elton John Meaux, 95, who died December 6, 2007 at Camelot Nursing Home in Crowley.

Bishop Jude Speyrer will be officiating for the services. The family is requesting that visiting hours be held Friday from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to the time of service. A rosary will be recited by Sister Justina Baker at 6 p.m. Friday at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Elton John Meaux was born near Kaplan, LA to Fulbert and Anastasie Suire Meaux December 13, 1911. He joined the United States Army in 1931 and served until his retirement as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1954. Mr. Meaux served at the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium in World War II, where he earned a Bronze Star for "heroic service" on December 18, 1944. He also served in the Korean conflict.

Mr. Meaux is survived by his wife of 29 years, Genevieve Trumps Meaux of Crowley; two daughters, Faye Speyrer and her husband Oscar of Opelousas, and Geraldine Craft and her husband Billy of Woodworth; one son, John David Meaux of Pineville; one sister, Laures Hebert of Kaplan; two step-daughters, Gwen Kelly and her husband Charles of Crowley, and Kathy Wyatt and her husband Connley of Katy, TX; two step-sons, David Grotefend and his wife Janet of Crowley, and Michael Grotefend and his wife Pam of Scott; four grandchildren, Tara Bryant, Heather Chachere, Carla Nassif, and Charisse Barry; thirteen step-grandchildren, William and Joseph Speyrer, Todd and Megan Kelly, Brent Wyatt, Edgar, John, and Ross Grotefend, Jackie Doucet, Heidi LeBlanc, Holli Brou, Jennifer Bellard, and Erin Grotefend; five great-grandchildren; and twenty step-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Alice Broussard Meaux; his parents, his infant son, James Meaux; his grandson, Robert John Morgan; his step-grandson, Eric Grotefend; and six siblings, Angelas, Odelas, Aubree, and Willie Meaux, Mabel Broussard and Gladys Abshire.
