Oklahoma City — Former longtime Marlow, Oklahoma, resident JESSIE ROBERT HINES, 90, passed away Monday, January 14, 2013, at her home in Oklahoma City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 19, at the First United Methodist Church in Marlow, with the Rev. Harold Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Marlow Cemetery under direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow.
Jessie was born Sunday, January 14, 1923, in the Central High community to William Barnett and Gertha Mae Tuggle Johnson. Jessie lived in the Marlow area most of her life before moving to Oklahoma City two years ago. She attended school and graduated from Central High School.
Jessie married Clyde Franklin Brown in September 1940, in Marlow. He preceded her in death in May 1945.
On January 5, 1947, she married Troy Kenneth Hines in Marlow. He preceded her in death on April 13, 1999.
Jessie was a pastry cook, working at Taylor's Restaurant for many years. She enjoyed quilting, watching square-dancing, playing dominoes and pitch. Jessie always had a large garden and often canned her fruits and vegetables and made jelly for her family.
Jessie loved to spend time with her kids and grandkids. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marlow.
Survivors include sons, Loyd C. Brown and wife Haydeé, and Harold W. Brown and wife Cindy, both of Oklahoma City; Elvin T. "Bubby" Hines and wife Brenda of Gladewater, Texas, Barney Hines and wife Debbie, and Fred Hines and wife Kim, both of Marlow; daughter, Janice A. Compton of Anderson, South Carolina, Maudean Wakefield and husband Robert of Edmond, Oklahoma, Bonnie Snidow and husband Rick of Lawton, Oklahoma; 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lola Ruth Herrera and husband Joe of Duncan; brothers-in-law that were raised in the home, M. T. Hines and J. W. Hines, both of Duncan, Freddie Kent Hines of Tuscarora, Maryland; sisters-in-law, Cathy DeRoin of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Freda Sharp of Bakersfield, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jessie was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Marvin Johnson, Elvin Johnson, Harold Johnson and Cecil Johnson; and sisters, Pearl McGee, Florence McGehee, Eulita Ball and Norene Sheehan.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marlow Nutrition Center, Marlow Senior Citizens Center, or donor's choice.
