Anchorage resident NICK L. CALLISON , 53, died Oct. 26, 2001, at Olympic Memorial Hospital in Port Angeles, Wash., after a long illness. A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, Eighth Avenue and E Street, with visitation beginning at 2 p.m. Chaplain Stephen Washington will officiate. Burial will be in spring at Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery.

Born Oct. 24, 1948, in Chicago, Mr. Callison moved with his family to Alaska when he was 1 year old. He served honorably in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1965 to 1969, earning a Purple Heart and Silver Star. In 1975, he began his career with the Anchorage Fire Department, where he was a firefighter. He retired in 1999 and left Alaska due to illness. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Callison 's family wrote, ''Nick was a brave and compassionate man.'' His parents, Hershel Callison and Lenida Paige, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Callison ; daughters, Kori Callison and Diana White; brothers and sister-in-law, Doug and Marty Callison , and J.R. Smith; granddaughter, Alina White; nieces, Heather Nelles and her husband Jeff, Kelli Callison and Kasey Callison . Family suggests memorial donations to the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements by Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
