Mrs James Smith
The funeral of Mrs James Smith was held on Monday afternoon from the Scott Funeral Home. Rev J. Ray Anderson conducted the service. Mrs Smith was the daughter of the late Rebecca Kemp and Thomas Andrews, early pioneer settlers. She was born at Blakeney and when very young the family moved to Almonte where deceased had spent her entire life. She was first married in 1893 to Joseph Phillips who predeceased her 34 years ago. She later married James Smith who passed away in 1951. Left to mourn her loss are two sons, William Phillips of Greenville, South Carolina; Joseph of Almonte and four daughters, Rebecca (Mrs E. Adams) and Laura (Mrs Harold Schultz) of Almonte; Violet, (Mrs Andrew Brown) of Carleton Place; Elizabeth (Mrs Sydney Willis) of Kingston; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. David, another son, passed away in 1951. Mrs Smith was a very quiet and kindly person and will be sadly missed by many who knew her. The pallbearers were Andrew Brown, David and William Andrews, John Bennett, Albert Melvin, Reggie Wright, immediate friends of the family. The remains were placed in the Auld Kirk vault or burial in the Spring. Many out of town friends attended from Toronto, Oshawa, Camp Borden, Ottawa, Carleton Place and other points.
