Donald was the son of the late Henry Joseph and Anna (Winko) Traum. Brother of Living Traum in Chagrin Falls, OH and the late Robert John Traum of Parma, OH. He was the grandson of the late Henry and Hedwig (Graffenberger) Traum of Cleveland, Ohio and the late John and Helen (Guzy) Winko of Cleveland, OH. The great grandson of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Kline) Traum of Resicza, Hungary Germany and the late John and Magdeline "Marie" (Zanzinger) Graffenberger from Cleveland, Ohio.

Don graduated from West Tech High School, Cleveland, Ohio in 1952.

When he was around 16 or 17 years old he worked at Swift and Company which was a slaughter house and meat packing company. (65th and Storer, Cleveland, Ohio) In 1952 he started working for Ohio Bell telephone company (Cleveland, Ohio) at the age of 19 and he worked there until he passed away. He also joined the service. He was stationed in Mamough, New Jersey. (or is it Monmouth?) He never went over seas.

He was married and had three sons and one daughter all still living in Ohio.

In May of 1988 he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was given two months to live. He bravely went through chemo and radiation with little success. The cancer had spread to his liver, lungs and brain. He passed away peacefully on October 19, 1988 at home with his wife and daughter at his side.

He had begun smoking cigarettes at the age of 14 and at the time of his diagnosis, at the age of 55, he was a two pack a day chain smoker. He stopped smoking "cold turkey" on the day that he found out he had cancer. Unfortunately it was to late. If you are a smoker please stop now...if not for yourself...for those of us who love you.

This person is my father and I'd love contact from anyone who remembers him from school, work or the military. I would love any photo's of him that you could share with our family. Thank You. [email protected]
