Ken W. Carson , 64, died March 12, 1999, in a car accident in Anchorage. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at All Saints' Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jim Basinger officiating.

Mr. Carson was born April 23, 1934, in Moreland, Okla. He came to Alaska in 1956 to attend the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where he studied geology and served as student body president. Mr. Carson delivered the opening address at the Alaska Constitutional Convention in 1959. He later worked on the DEW Line, and flew to remote areas of Alaska to take photographs of the coastline to be used in topography. Mr. Carson married Olga Borovich on May 10, 1961, in Fairbanks. They founded Culfabco Inc., which has manufactured culvert pipe for many of the building and road projects in Alaska since 1971. During the past year, Mr. Carson realized his longtime dream when he received his patent on the rib pipe he invented. Mr. Carson 's many years of public service included terms as special assistant to Gov. Wally Hickel during the mid-1960s, board member of the Fairbanks North Star Borough and Fairbanks City Councilman. He also served on Gov. Jay Hammond's Capitol Site Planning Commission. Mr. Carson was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Harry Glenn Carson Sr. of Kennewick, Wash.; and father-in-law, Clyde Geraghty of Fairbanks.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 38 years, Olga; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Kim Carson , all of Anchorage; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and John Vallentine of Scottsdale, Ariz.; mother-in-law, Angie Geraghty of Palm Desert, Calif., and Fairbanks; five grandchildren, Stephanie Vallentine, John Vallentine, Matthew Carson , Alex Carson and Evan Carson ; brother-in-law, Steve Geraghty of Fairbanks; brother-in-law, Mike Geraghty, his wife, Mishel, and their childrn, all of Anchorage; niece, Caprice Springer, her husband, Brad, and their children, all of Anchorage; niece, Stacey Monaghan, her husband, Sean, and their children of Calgary; sister-in-law, Vera Matherly and her husband, Jim, of Fairbanks; nephew, Jim Matherly, his wife, Moriah, and their children, all of Fairbanks; nephew, Jeff Matherly of Fairbanks; brother, Jim Carson of Central; brother, H.G. Carson , and his family of New Mexico; nephew, Steve Elliott of Fairbanks; and sister-in-law, Nickey Elliot of Fairbanks. Arrangements by Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
