Augustus F. Davis, son of Mary Jane (née Branson) and Asa Davis, was born probably in 1858 in Madison County, Indiana, where his family was farming in the 1850 and 1860 U.S. Censuses. By the late 1860s, his family had relocated to Illinois, and were farming in Champaign County in 1870 and 1880 U.S. Censuses.
Augustus F. Davis and Miss Ida E. Dolph were married on 19 August 1888 in Fisher, Champaign County, where both resided. In 1900, the couple were living in Ludlow Township; he ran a restaurant. Around 1907, the Davis family moved to Morton County, North Dakota. There, he farmed, and managed a grocery store. He died there in 1925 at the age of 67, survived by his wife, and two of their three children.
