Military Rites Held For Mr. Abbott

Military funeral rites for Joseph E. Abbott of Glass Lake, past commander of Noble-Callahan Post, American Legion, and a veteran of World War I, were conducted yesterday morning. The funeral took place from the Daniel D. Purcell & Son Funeral Home, and at 9;30 a.m. from St. Henry's Church where a Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev. Francis P. Anthus. Rev. Edmund F. Gibbons was deacon and Rev. Bernard J. Lynch, sub-deacon.

Rev. Matthew M. Brennan was master of ceremonies.

George A. Geiger was at the organ and William J. Smith sang "Miscrere" at the processional, "Domine Jesu Christe" at the offertory and "Soul of May Saviour" at the recessional.

Past commanders of Noble-Callahan Post acted as bearers: Edward L. Ryan, Joseph F. Carey, Frank A. Doney, Samuel T. Ryan, Michael A. Jubic and Jackson D. Dennis.

The firing squad was headed by John E. Heenan, also a past commander of the Post and included Joseph Quinan, Walter F. Daley, Richard T. McGlynn, Frank G. Courtemanche and Francis L. Laviolette.

Joseph D. Decresenti was bugler and sounded "Taps" at the grave in St. Peter's Cemetery. Mr. Heenan and Mr. Courtemanche folded the Flag which covered the casket and presented it to Mrs. Abbott. Father Anthus officiated at the committal service.

Monday night Father Anthus visited the funeral home and recited the Rosary. Delegations were present from Watervliet Arsenal, the Averill Park and Sand Lake Fire Department headed by Fire Chief Edward A. Guy, special deputies from Averill Park, the New York Telephone Co., Noble-Callahan Post, Rensselaer County Voiture, 40 & 8 and Albany County Voiture, 40 & 8.
