ELLAVILLE, GA --- Mr. Harold Dillard, age 87, of Ellaville, GA died Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, GA. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 12, 2012 at 3:30 PM at Ellaville Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Ellaville Cemetery. Dr. Ben Foxworth and Rev. Brooks Partain will officiate.

Mr. Dillard was born July 30, 1925 in Schley County, GA, the son of Nettie Eunice Dillard and Joseph Emmett Dillard. He was a retired farmer and ran several local service stations for many years. Mr. Dillard was a member of Ellaville Baptist Church, the Willing Workers Sunday school class, the Masons, and American Legion Post 191. He served in the American Legion in several capacities, including treasurer, for many years. Mr. Dillard had served on the Schley County Industrial Board and as a Schley County Commissioner. He loved his country, having served in the Army during World War II in Germany, but most of all he loved Ellaville and Schley County. Mr. Dillard also loved his family and was looking forward to seeing his first great grandchild, Emma Kathleen Everson.

Mr. Dillard is survived by his wife, Geraldine Brewer Dillard; one daughter, Patti Wurtz and husband Steve of Ellaville; one son, Hal Dillard and wife Dana of Americus, GA; and one brother, Vernon Dillard and wife Jacquelyn of Ellaville. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Owen Dillard, Reed Dillard, Erin Everson and husband Eddie, Allie Wurtz and Chas Wurtz

Pallbearers will include Reed Dillard, Chas Wurtz, Tony Tidd, Joe Tidd, Mark Dillard, James Grant, Eddie Greene, Kenneth Phillips, and Jody Dillard. Honorary pallbearers will include Eddie Baisden, the Willing Workers Sunday school class, and the members of American Legion Post 191. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 11, 2012 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home.
