Thomas Sowatzke, affectionately known as "Buppa", age 60, of the Town of Port Edwards, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at his residence.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Tom will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nekoosa. Rev. John Swing will officiate the service. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Friday morning from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery in Nekoosa.

Tom was born on August 30, 1961 in Wisconsin Rapids to Donald Sowatzke and Virginia Lang. He graduated from Assumption High School in 1979 and then took training at Mid-State Technical College to be a fire fighter. Tom volunteered as a first responder for the Town of Port Edwards around the same time he became a volunteer firefighter for the City of Nekoosa in December 2004. He served his community proudly as a member of the fire department for 16 years, retiring as a lieutenant in December 2020. In addition to his role on the fire department, Tom worked for Nekoosa Coated Products as a warehouse operator for many years. He married Debra A. Dhein on January 24, 1987 at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Stevens Point.

Tom enjoyed tending to his hobby farm and liked to go fishing and four-wheeling. He was a HAM radio operator for many years and enjoyed talking on the radio to his friends and son Jake. Tom was known to enjoy a good joke and was dedicated to serving the community he loved.

Tom is survived by his wife, Debra, sons Tyler (Erin) Sowatzke and Jake (Tara Howard) Sowatzke, grandchildren Avery and Hudson Sowatzke, sisters Donna (Dennis) Ebert, Deb Repta and Karla Repta. He is further survived by his dogs Graycie and Penny.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Roy Repta and brother John Repta.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Wisconsin State Firefighters Association.
