A. Stubblefield of Cuyama Dies

Pioneer Rancher Resident of County 47 years. Funeral to be in Santa Maria.

Absolom Stubblefield, for three quarters of a century a resident of California and for the last 47 years a rancher in the Cuyama valley district died yesterday (Apr. 17, 1934) in a local hospital. He was 93 years of age.

Born in east Tennessee, he came to California as a boy and settled in the Santa Maria district, for many years engaging in the horse and sheep-raising business there before homesteading in the Stubblefield property in the Cuyama Valley.

He leaves 3 sons, William R., of Cuyama valley; John of Old River; and Robert of Shafter, and four daughters, Mrs. Hattie Wilkinson of Ora Grande (Arroyo Grande), Mrs. Mary Saulsbury of Sacramento; Mrs. Ruth Hudson and Mrs. Laura (Lourena) Hudson, both of Maricopa.

His body will be taken to Santa Maria and funeral rites will be held in the family burying ground, the Pine Grove Cemetery near Santa Maria, Friday at 1 o'clock. Arrangements are in charge of Doughty-Calhoun-O'Meara chapel.
