Flint Journal, June, 1949: Linden Couple Will Observe 70th Wedding Anniversary — Friends and relatives Wednesday will honor Mr. & Mrs. George D. Chase, 91 and 90 years old, respectively at their home on South Bridge Street, Linden, on their 70th wedding anniversary. Mr. Chase was born in Steuben County, Indiana in 1858, his family settling in Branch County when Mr. Chase was 5 years old. Alice Upp Chase was born in Branch County May 2, 1859, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Jacob Upp. After their marriage in Branch County, June 29, 1879, the couple moved to the Grand Blanc Road in Gaines Township, constructing their home from the timber hewn by Mr. Chase. Sixteen years later, Mr. & Mrs. Chase sold their home and settled at Baldwin and Seymour Roads. Later, they erected another home, transporting the lumber by oxen from Flint. They came to Linden in 1938. Mr. Chase has served as Gaines Township supervisor, treasurer, and board of review member. He also served on the Fletcher School Board. Mr. Chase has been a member of the Linden Lodge 123 F&AM more than 60 years. Mr. & Mrs. Chase have three children; Mrs. Ethel Farmer of Flint; Mrs. Carl Powell of Corunna; Harvey Chase of California; and 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. A son, Herman, died in 1944.
