Veda Eleanor Aberth March 9, 1927 - October 13, 2021
Veda Eleanor Aberth, wife, mother and long time resident of Perry, NY passed away on October 13, 2021 at the age of 94 at Eastside Nursing Home. Eleanor was born in Huron, NY on March 9, 1927 to Clarence and Veda Grinnell. Tragically, Eleanor's mother Veda died during her birth, leaving behind three children. Her brother Walter and sister Ruth went to live with other family members but Eleanor was adopted shortly after her birth by Raymond and Dora Richardson. In later years, Eleanor was able to establish relationships with Walter and Ruth. Eleanor's childhood was enriched by the birth of her brother Don, born two years after she was adopted. The family grew up in Greigsville and later moved to Perry. She spent idyllic summers at their cottage in Fair Haven swimming, boating and enjoying her favorite activities of riding horses and catching turtles. After her father died when she was 12, Eleanor and her mother and brother remained in Perry where she graduated in 1945. Eleanor met Harold Aberth and they married on May 2, 1947. They lived in Perry and had six children. Their youngest child Paul, born with Down syndrome, had profound impact on Eleanor's life. As a result, she worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for Paul and along with other parents, founded the ARC of Livingston-Wyoming. She devoted many years of service to ARC and was honored to have a group home in Perry named after her. Sadly, Harold and Paul passed away in 1984 and in 2015 she lost her son Jerry. Because of Eleanor's amazing resiliency, she went on to enjoy a rich life filled with family and friends and was able to travel and pursue new interest. Eleanor was a member of the First Congregational Church in Perry Center where she enjoyed being a member of the Women's Evening Fellowship. She was also a member of the Perry Chapter of The Order of Eastern Star. Eleanor's hobbies including traveling, reading, bird watching, crafts, cross-stitch and gardening which took she took pride in and enjoyed receiving compliments on the beauty of her gardens. Her greatest joy, however, was her family and spending time with her many friends. She especially enjoyed Friday night dinners with friends and were frequent patrons of the area's many restaurants. Along with her parents, husband and sons, Eleanor is preceded in death by siblings: Ruth, Walter and Donald. Eleanor is survived by her four daughters: Linda (Steve) Poydock, Sandra (Dave) DeLaVergne, Carol (Don) Bach and Vicki (Paul) Szczypierowski. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.
