John Winston May was the fifth child and second son of Ira and Dorothy Wagner May. He was a dairy farmer for many years. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS McCaffery destroyer 860. He married Patricia Lollar in 1956 in Newton and they had three daughters and two sons. Patty died in 2008. He married Glenda Schott in 2009 and they spent their married life in Newton, Michigan, and Florida.

John will be loved and remembered by his wife Glenda Schott; five children and a stepson; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers Don May and Lon May and sister Helen Matson.
His parents, wife Patty, and sisters Lenora Seely and Irene Jones preceded him in death.
