Frances was born the 5th of 6 children whose parents were Chinese immigrants. She grew up in the Suisun Valley near Fairfield, CA., helping her siblings and parents farm fruit trees. She graduated from Armijo High School (Fairfield) in 1947, and proceeded to attend U. C. Berkeley. There she met her husband, Forrest. They moved to San Leandro and had 4 children: Randy, Phyllis, Pam and Dennis. She obtained a real estate license in 1968, and sold houses for many years, taking advantage of her natural friendliness and warmth, being quite a gregarious person. She was very active in the school's PTA for a while. Frances loved gardening and entertaining family at the house in San Leandro. She regularly had a smile on her face and would engage you at a moment's notice. After living by herself for 12 years, at age 80, she moved in with daughter, Phyllis, in San Jose. She survived heart surgery (aortic dissection) and breast cancer; lived until she was almost 92. People will miss her warmth and friendliness, as a mother, grandmother, auntie, and friend. She is survived by 3 of her children, Randy, Phyllis and Pam, and her 3 grandchildren; Brian Kawashima, Stuart Kawashima, Clinton Lam-Song, sister Daisy Gilbert of New York, as well as many others in her extended family. Her ashes, with her husband's, are located just a few feet from their son's final resting place overlooking the San Francisco Bay.
