Sarah "Sallie" Elizabeth Tucker was born August 14, 1852 in Scott County, Kentucky. Her son, Deb Kelley, made her gravestone. It erroneously lists her birth year as 1854. Her death certificate has her correct birth date.

Sallie was the eldest daughter of Thomas Tucker and Elizabeth Tarter. She had an older brother, Kinchen Powers Tucker, and two younger sisters, Mary J. "Polly" Tucker Estes and Barbara Ann Tucker Wright. The family moved to Adair County, Kentucky by 1854.

Sallie was 6 years old when her father was murdered at a turkey-shoot in August of 1858. Her mother died about 5 years later after a lengthy illness, leaving Sallie and her siblings orphans. They were taken in by an Uncle and moved to Arkansas.

John Estes, her first husband, died in 1883, at age 33. His death came shortly before Sallie gave birth to their daughter Frankie. Sallie was a widow with six young children. She married 20-year-old James Kelley, who had been hired to help on the farm, that same year.

Several of Sarah's children died in infancy. According to the 1910 Census, Sallie had fifteen children, nine of whom survived to adulthood. It is believed that eight of her children were with John Estes.

After the death of her second husband, she lived with her son, John Kelley.

Sarah died of pneumonia lobar influenza at the age of 78 years, 5 months and 9 days.
