Elizabeth "Betty" Bonell of Reno, Nevada, died 14 June 2010. She was born 22 March 1917 in Hibbing and graduated from Hibbing High School. She then attended the University of Minnesota and Mills College in Oakland, majoring in history and becoming a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After college, she managed the Beatle Hotel in Madison, South Dakota, and later worked in a hospital in Seattle, Washington. In 1949, she married John Bonell and they moved to Reno, where he became a professor of civil engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno. In additional to being a wife and mother, Betty was an active helper in the community. One of her first volunteer jobs was at Trinity Nevada Thrift Store. She was active in many other organizations, including Peavine Elementary School PTA, Central Junior High PTA, Clayton Junior High School PTA, ASCE women's auxiliary. She also worked as a volunteer at Washoe Medical Center and in fund-raising drives for cancer and heart charities, as well as for the Republican Party. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she helped for over a decade with its Flower Altar Guild. She was also a member and past president of the Monday Club and UNR Faculty Wives Club. She was survived by a daughter, son, nieces, nephews, cousins and a sister- and brother-in-law. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William and George, Jr., and her husband.
