Obituary for James Goldsmith--James Goldsmith was born in England in the County of Kent, near Headcorn on the 20th day of December in the year 1822. He came to America when about 30 years of age and settled near Marion, Wayne County, NY living there about 2 years. While there, he was united in marriage to Miss E. M. Welsh, then they emigrated to Cass County, Michigan, where they lived until the Spring of 1871, when, with their family, they moved to Kansas, locating in Osage county, near Lyndon, where he lived until his death, which occurred on January 27, 1915. His age was 92 years, one month, and seven days. [according to census records, James Goldsmith was approximately 85 years old when he died in 1915] To this union 8 children were born of which 6 are still living to mourn his death with the surviving Mother.
Those living are W. J. Goldsmith of Melvern, KS; Fred and Lee Goldsmith of Lyndon; James Goldsmith of Miller; Louis Goldsmith of Sequim, WA; and Mrs. Bertha Jones of Colorado. He united with the Baptist Church in 1909. Funeral services were held in the Baptist Church Friday at 2 o'clock with Pastor Barth officiating and the remains were laid to rest in the Lyndon Cemetery.
