Sir Edward Woodville KG, KB, was a member of the Woodville family active during the Wars of the Roses, the son of Richard Woodville, 1st Earl Rivers, and his wife, Jacquetta of Luxembourg, dowager Duchess of Bedford. His elder sister, Elizabeth, was Queen Consort of King Edward IV of England. He survived the reign of Richard III in which several of his relatives were executed in a power struggle after the death of Edward IV. He was exiled with Henry Tudor, the future Henry VII, and participated in Tudor's quest for the throne. He was appointed Lord of the Isle of Wight, the last person to be given that title. Although Woodville was referred to as Lord Scales after the death of his brother Anthony Woodville, 2nd Earl Rivers, who bequeathed the Scales lands to him, he never officially held the baronial title. He was killed at the Battle of Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier and buried in Brittany, his burial location unknown. English Heritage erected a memorial for Sir Edward Woodville at Carisbrooke castle in 2009.
