His birth and death dates are approximate. Joseph married Mary Jane Claiborne who was born in Tennessee probably in Pickens County, Alabama, where their first child was born. Joseph B. likely lies in the unmarked false crypt to the left of his sister, Martha (Passy) Guyton. He was a co-executor with Passy in her husband's probate process in 1860. Joseph B., Sr. was probably born in old Union District, SC (now Cherokee County, SC). Said to be the son of Abraham Guyton and Martha (Patsy) Ellis. The Guyton families all possibly came from Baltimore County, Maryland. Joseph, his sister Passy, and Passy's husband, Isaac Guyton and family members migrated to Pickens County, Alabama in about 1833 from SC, and then came to Washington County, Texas in the late 1840s. The Guyton families were associated with the Baptist religion. Joseph B., Sr. and brother-in-law Isaac Guyton, owned over 700 acres of land in the Isaac Jackson league, purchased from Mr. Jackson's heirs.
