ABBLITT, Richard
Richard Earl Abblitt passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at the age of 80, Marietta, Georgia. Mr Ablitt was born in Pomona, California on September 24, 1923. He graduated from Pomona High School in 1941, joined the Merchant Marines and fought in the South Pacific in WW II. After the war, Dick joined Home Builders Savings and Loan Association in Pomona. In 1987, he retired as Regional Vice President for Great Western Savings & Loan Association (now owned by Washington Mutual) after working 42 years in this industry. Mt Ablitt was known for giving people their start and mentoring many careers. He was a founding member of Inland Bank of Pomona which was later acquired by California Bank. As two term President of the Pomona Business District, Mr. Ablitt was instrumental in the revitalization of the downtown Pomona Business District. Mr. Ablitt was active in the Pomona Lions Club and was twice elected and served as President of the Pomona Chapter of the Navy League of California. He retired in 1987, moved to Georgia in 1988 where Mr. Ablitt lived in Peachtree City for 12 years before relocating to Smyrna, GA. Mr. Ablitt leaves behind many who were inspired by his joyful and enthusiastic life his devoted wife of 58 years, Patricia Ann Abblitt, son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Betty Ann Abblitt; grandchildren, Parker, A.J. and Ginger Ablitt; sisters, Musette Dunn of Claremont, CA.; Thelma Gene Marxmiller of Pomona, CA.; and Shirley June Kearney of Acton, CA.; brother, Robert Carlisle Abblitt of Chula Vista, CA.; sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and many others who called him family and friend. His brother, Ret. Col. William Elroy Abblitt of Grants Pass, OR preceded him in death. Services will be held on Friday, March 26 at 2 p.m. at Northside United Methodist Church located at 2799 Northside Drive, NW, Atlanta, GA 30305. 404-355-6475.
