.William F. (Bill) Ahern (age 96), WWII Vet., former Shelton Pinochle Champ, and last of the Bog Pond Green Gorillas passed on into the wild blue yonder on October 18, 2021. He was born at home in Ansonia on Sept. 24 1925, the son of Francis M (Paddy) Ahern and Elizabeth M (Bessie) Williamson Ahern. Bill resided in Shelton for 71 years.
Bill was educated in the elementary schools of Ansonia, was a graduate of Ansonia High School, a graduate of The Cheshire Academy, and attended Champlain College. Bill was a veteran of World War II (1943 to 1946) and served 16 months with the famed 8th Air Force in the European Theater of Operations in 1944 and 1945. He was employed for 43 years as a Land Title Researcher, originally with the office of V.B. Clark, Civil Engineer, and later as owner and operator of The Valley Abstract Company with an office in Ansonia, retiring in 1991. Bill also held the position of Executive Vice President of Sales and Service, East Coast for The Industrial Wood Products Company of Shelton for many years.
Bill was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Helene Skelly Ahern. He is survived by his 3 children, William S. Ahern and his wife Joan, Deidre A. Carstens and her husband Robert, and Kevin F. Ahern and his wife MaryEllen, his nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, his sister Arlene Fitzgerald, his 3 sisters-in-law Jeanne Hill, Claire Fisher, and Geri Morey and their extended families. Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, October 27 at The Jenkins King & Malerba Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St., Ansonia CT from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The Funeral will then leave for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church in Shelton at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Family Plot in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. Contributions may be made to The Boys and Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley or Griffin Hospital Development Fund.
