My Mother-in-Law
Rose Evelyn Williams died at Vermont Respite House in Williston. She was born in St. Johnsbury, the daughter of Charles and Hazel Noyes Emery.
She did volunteer work at Addison County Community Action Group in Middlebury.
She is survived by six children, Anthony Pidgeon of Cornwall, Deborah Wildasin and husband Phil of Addison, Maureen Pidgeon and fiancé Bret Benner of South Burlington, Jody Pidgeon and wife Jennifer of Rutland, Tina Wildasin and husband Paul Jr. of Waltham, and Scott Pidgeon of Middlebury; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Clayton Emery of New Hampshire; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Ellie Mae Pidgeon, in 1968; a brother, Clyde Emery, and a sister, Arlene Paradis, and a number of half-siblings.

Rose was my mother-in-law, I was married to her son Jody. When Jody & I first got married we lived in Middlebury where she lived and we often walked over to visit her at her apartment on North Pleasant St. I remember she was a good cook, and liked to make things, and she seemed to like me alright.
She had a hard life. Both her parents were dead by the time she was 16 and she gradually lost contact with her siblings. Her first husband, my father-in-law Leo Pidgeon, died 2 days after their 10th wedding anniversary in 1966, leaving her a single mother with a bunch of kids. She was married again, to Leon Williams, in 1979, but it didn't work out. She helped raise a few of her grandkids over the years. She never had a lot of money or material things but always went down to volunteer when she could at Community Action in Middlebury.
One of the things that made her final years happier was reuniting with her brother Clayton and sister Arlene after nearly 50 years. Jody & I tracked down Clayton for her, who in turn put her in touch with Arlene and filled her in on all the things that happened in all those years. We drove her to meet Clayton and his family at his New Hampshire home. She and Arlene and Clayton all kept in regular contact from then on.
She was laid to rest beside her husband Leo in his hometown of South Hero. She will be missed by her children and family.
Among her grandchildren is Aaron Meacham.
