Norfleet Green Crews was the sixth child and third son of Elijah Thomas Crews and Mary Jordan Parham Crews. His parents had many children, and Norfleet was adopted by his father's brother (his uncle) Edward N. Crews, who had married his mother's sister Martha Green Parham Crews and who had no children of their own.

N.G. Crews was the sole devisee of his uncle Edward N. Crews and his wife. Edward acquired his lands from his father (Norfleet's grandfather) James Crews. Norfleet added largely to the same by thrift and diligence. He more than doubled the estate in value in the following twenty years. Norfleet Crews and his brother Haden W. Crews "made more clear money farming than any farmers I know" according to Thurston Titus Hicks.

He married first Victoria Burroughs the daughter of J. E. Borroughs. She dying, in 1892 he married Charlotte Eloise Marrow in Durham Co., NC. They had nine children. The children of Norfleet and Charlotte were: Eloise, widow of T. L. Fishel, 2. Edward N Crews 3. N.G. Crews (Jr.) 4. Samuel B. Crews 5. Mary Delia Crews 6. Martha Eugenia Crews 7. Daniel M. Crews 8. Lottie M. Crews 9. R. T. Crews

Norfleet died in middle life in the year 1919. In the division of his lands, they fell to his daughter Eloise Fishel, who still owned it in 1926.
