Joe had polio in his right leg, but that did not stop him from playing football for Fordson High School. Even when the people were discouraging him from trying out, he was more determined to play football. I had known Joe since Junior High at Lowery in Dearborn. We were close friends and he was a genuine nice person, and I admired him for his determination. He became distraught over some situation involving a young girl or some other problem, and he committed suicide by shooting himself. He was only 19 years of age, and had just graduated in June of 1986, from Fordson High School.
