GLASGOW PUBLISHER'S DEATH
The death occurred yesterday at his residence in Hamilton Park Drive , Glasgow, of Mr John Blackie, a former director of Blackie & Sons, (Ltd.), publishers , Glasgow. Mr Blackie was 59 years of age, and on account of ill-health he retired two years ago from the firm, which was founded by his great-grandfather. For the greater part of his life he was associated with the publishing house. In early manhood he spent some time in Africa. He was well known in printing and publishing circles and was prominently associated with the Master Printers' Association. [The Scotsman - Monday 21 September 1936, p.7]
