Fred R. Jennings
Midwest City, Oklahoma
June 6, 1930 - November 6, 2021

Fred Ray Jennings, aged 91, fell asleep in the Lord, November 6, 2021 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Beloved, respected, adored by all who knew him, Fred lived a long, full life, and will be deeply mourned by many who long to meet him again in the Kingdom of God. Fred was generous, virtuous, faithful, hard-working, and the cornerstone of his family. He was a model Christian man who overcame adversity and loss with astonishing strength.

Fred was one of seven children, born to Mable Blanche Sutherland (Redlands, CA) and Albert C. Jennings (Latham, KS) on June 6, 1930 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings; sisters Bonnie Porter, Wilma Bass, Audrey Adams, and brothers Clyde Jennings, Roy Jennings and Merle Jennings. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, married 69 years, Laura Melvern Jennings (2016) and infant son Larry Joe (1953).

After the death of his beloved mother at age 8, the youngest of all his siblings, Fred learned to care for himself far beyond the scope of his years and experience. He moved from Oklahoma to Arizona to California, worked as a migrant farm worker picking cotton and pecans, shined shoes on his knees in Downtown Oklahoma City, drove an ice cream truck, ran a chicken farm and found it necessary to drop out of school to support himself. He met his salvation in Christ and his future wife, Melvern, as a fifteen year old boy. Years later, as a young father, Fred returned to school to earn his GED, much older than his classmates. He became a successful foreman for Times Journal Printing in Oklahoma City, raised a fine family, faithfully served Christ and became one of the most admirable men many have ever known. The stories of his life have become legend in the family, and his humor, kindness, goodness and generosity will leave an unforgettable mark on generations to come.
