Mrs. Martha Ella Persinger Carter, age 89, of Covington, died Monday, November 8, 2021, at The Springs Nursing Center, Hot Springs. She was the wife of the late Benjamin P. Carter, Jr.

Mrs. Carter was born January 1, 1932 in West Virginia, the daughter of the late Stanley Edward Persinger and Nancy Elizabeth Bailey Persinger. During her working career she had been employed as a clerk and bookkeeper for various local retail businesses. Mrs. Carter was a member of Johnson Creek Church of God of Prophecy where she was active in the church. In her spare time, Martha was an avid reader, a talented seamstress and a wonderful cook. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Mrs. Carter is survived by a son, Gary Carter and wife, Janice of Covington; a daughter, Peggy Mullen of Wayland, MA; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister, Nancy Hubbard of Potts Creek; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sally Moody; a brother, James E. Persinger; and three sisters, Jane Bartley, Clara Kellison and Dorothy Rowsey.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Alleghany Memorial Park with Rev. Edith Snedegar officiating.
