Dover-Foxcroft - Edward Runnals Danforth, 74, completed his earthly journey and climbed the ladder to his heavenly home on November 8, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
Edward was born on October 3, 1947, in Dover Foxcroft, Maine, the son of John and Eleanor (Cleaves) Danforth. He attended local schools and was a 1965 graduate of Foxcroft Academy. Edward received his English degree from University of Maine, Orono. In 1973 Edward began his teaching career teaching English at Foxcroft Academy for 20 years and then teaching at Mountain View Correctional Facility for several years before retiring in 2013.
Ed married Nancy Merrill on January 28, 1972, and together they shared 49 years raising their girls in their home in Dover-Foxcroft and then later enjoying their grandchildren at their home on Sebec Lake.
As a boy Ed gained the nickname of "Steady Eddie" and then, after his first date with Nancy, Nancy's father gave Ed the nickname "Steady Pound" as he was a steady knock at the front door from that first day until they were married. The word "steady" describes who Ed was and what he was for his loved ones. Ed's love and was even and continuous, stable, and supportive. His demeanor was calm and balanced. Ed's strong faith was evident in how he carried himself and in the way he lived his life. He was always hopeful and optimistic, and he looked for ways to encourage others. Edward encountered multiple health challenges over the last 25 years, yet throughout this time he did not complain about his circumstances, and he chose to remain positive and more concerned with those around him than he was with himself. His faith as he endured his health challenges was unwavering. James 1:12 ESV says, "Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him." Ed's family finds comfort in knowing that he has received his crown.
Besides his wife, Nancy, he is survived by daughters, Kristin Page and her husband, Orren (Buddy) and Johanna Turner and her husband, Matt; grandsons, Adam Dulac, Alex Dulac, and Aidan Dulac; granddaughters, Eliza Chambers and husband, Brandon, Molly Lyford, Abigail Greenfield, and Rebecca Greenfield; great grandson, Nathaniel Chambers; sisters, Susan Underwood and her husband, Don, and Deborah Danforth-Dest and her husband, Paul; sisters-in-law, Sharon Danforth, Judy Danforth, Debbie Lander and husband, Scott, and Ellen Anderson; brothers-in-law, Charles Merrill and his wife, Jane, Gerald Merrill and his wife, Joan, and Jeff Merrill and his wife, Nora. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his granddaughter, Ella Dulac; brothers, Steven Danforth, Dana Danforth, and John Danforth.
