PILON, Richard Ray – Of Burton, age 94, died Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Durand Senior Care & Rehab Center.

He graduated from Flint Central High School in 1945.

Mr. Pilon served in the US Air Force during World War II and participated in the Berlin Airlift in 1948.

He married Nancy Pugh in 1968 and she preceded him in death in 1984. He married Betty Hillaker in 1985 and she preceded him in death in 2003. He later married Janette Sturk in 2006.

He was a longtime member and Sunday school teacher at First General Baptist Church of Flint; made 3 mission trips to Honduras, CA, also a member of the Berlin Airlift Veterans Association; life member of the Yankee Air Museum, Willow Run, Michigan and the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo, NY; a pilot since 1944. He started re-enacting WWII battles in 2009 in PA, OH, MI, IL and In. He was an active member of IDPA (International Defense Pistol Association) and Linden Sportsman Club.

Mr. Pilon was employed as a letter carrier for 16 years for the City of Flint and worked for AC Spark Plug for 25 years before retiring in 1992.

Surviving are wife, Janette Sturk-Pilon; 4 children, James and wife Ann of Durand, Richard, Jr. and wife Karen of Bartlette, Tennessee, Kevin and wife Michele of Burton, Kelly and husband Jerry Dodd of Thompsonville, Michigan; daughters-in-law, Ann of Virginia and Yvonne of Flint; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Rose Jeanine Roberge of Texas, Jeanette and husband Al Hensie of Florida; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Nancy J. (Pugh), Betty J. (Hillaker) Pilon and the mother or our children, Elva M. Pilon; sons, Mark and Bradley; his brother, Bruce T. Pilon.

Funeral service will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Jim Gosnell officiating.

Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
