Obituary from The Salt Lake Tribune (UT) - 26 November 2000:
The family of LaRue Weaver bade her farewell on 22 November 2000. We give thanks to know that she is now pain-free and happy, having been reunited with many loved ones who awaited her in the spirit world.
She was born LaRue Dorris Quinn in Firth, Idaho, on 28 March 1919, the daughter of William Duff and Alzada Palmer Quinn. She grew up in Firth and attended local schools. She lettered in basketball all three years of high school, worked on the school paper, and was the valedictorian of her graduating class. After high school, she moved to Salt Lake for additional schooling. There she met Russell E. Weaver. They were married 15 October 1943 in Salt Lake, and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on 10 June 1946.
LaRue spent her life working hard, serving in various callings, caring a great deal about others, and giving of herself in so many ways. She spent about 25 years volunteering in the LDS Church sports programs as scorekeeper, time-keeper, sports director, and referee/umpire. She refereed her last basketball game when she was 65. She was also a very competent bookkeeper and tax-preparer, and loved working with the small companies for which she did accounting.
She and Russ had six children, and they spent many happy hours as a family on picnics, trips to visit extended-family members across the country, and in family activities. She particularly enjoyed sports and attended numberless ball games to watch her children play. She was also an avid TV sports viewer, enjoying college and professional sports, and all Olympic events.
She is predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Elwyn and Wendell, and a sister, Ardyce; also by her husband, Russ, their son, Merl, and a great-granddaughter, Alexi Jensen. LaRue is survived by five children: Judith (Steve) Jensen, Jay (Sheila) Weaver, Dennis (JoLynne) Weaver, Doug (Lynette) Weaver, and Mary Weaver; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are her twin sister, Lorene Pratt of Cedar City; and sisters, Etha Dye of Kimberly, Idaho; Gladys Neal of Martinsville, Indiana; and Ann Bottini of Anchorage, Alaska.
We extend a BIG "thank you" to the nurses and aides at Sandy Regional Care Center. There was a lot of love and kindness in the care given to LaRue over the past several months, which we appreciate more than is possible to express in words.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, 28 November, at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Jordan 3rd Ward Chapel, 8950 S. 400 E., Sandy. The family will greet friends Monday evening 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State, and one hour prior to the services at the chapel on Tuesday. Interment at Sandy City Cemetery.
