Jesse Knight Allen, Prominent California Businessman and native of Provo. 86, beloved husband and father died of Cancer Friday night, August 24, 1990 at the Stanford University Hospital in Palo Alto, Calif.



He and his wife, Alice Richards Allen were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 10, 1928 and have lived in Palo Alto, Calif. for 60 years.



Knight Allen was born in Provo, Utah on July 12, 1904 to R.E. Allenand Inez Knight Allen. He was a grandson of Jesse Knight, and as a youth he worked at the Knight Woolen Mills and the Knight Trust and Savings Company. He attended the B.Y.U. Training School and graduated from B.Y.U., where he later taught in the Business School. During the depression years, he worked for Zion's Bank in Salt Lake City, and taught at the University of Santa Clara in California. He then served as Director of Research for California Banker's Association in San Francisco. During World War II, he worked on federal government economic programs in Washington D.C.



For many years he was a member of the Board of Directors of Omark Corp. of Portland, Oregon, and Weibel Inc. of Mission San Jose, Calif. Additional affiliations included a long-time membership with the San Francisco Security Analysts, and in Pal Alto he was twice president of the Y.M.C.A. and a member of the Kiwanis Club.



Mr. Allen received his M.B.A. and PhD from Stanford University and was on the faculty of the Stanford Graduate School of Business form 15 years. He then became a research economist for Stanford Research Institute (now S.R.I. International), and conducted studies in Italy, Israel, Cuba, Sweden, and Australia. From 1966 to 1976 he was a consultant in long-range planning for the Bechtel Corporation in San Francisco.



All his life, Mr. Allen was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and he first came to Northern California as an L.D.S. Missionary in 1926.



Knight Allen is survived by his wife, Alice Richards Allen, Palo Alto; two of his brothers, Mark K. Allen, Provo; and Joseph K. Allen, Atherton, Calif.; his children, Daniel R. Allen, Paradise, Calif.; Thomas K. Allen, Palo Alto, Calif.; and Irene Allen Jensen, Salt Lake City; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.



Funeral Services will be held Friday, 11 a.m., August 31, 1990 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 South Highland Drive.
Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
