Richard Merrill "Dick" Richards, 75, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loved ones January 13, 1995 in Provo, Utah.



Born September 19, 1919 in Salt Lake City to Stephen L. and Irene Smith Merrill Richards. Married his high school sweetheart Mary Elizabeth Gurnsey September 21, 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple for time and eternity.



Dick was employed by Caterpillar Tractor Company for 31 years, working in San Leandro, California, Portland, Oregon, Spokane, Washington and Peoria, Illinois. He was a veteran of World War II. He had many opportunities to serve in the LDS Church, two times as a bishop, three times as a High Councilman, a Mission President (Little Rock, Arkansas Mission) and a temple ordinance worker, faithfully serving in all these positions. He has been a charitable person to mankind. He and his wife are lifetime members of the Ricks College President's Club. He had a special love for his family, being very supportive of their activities. He enjoyed his summer days at the family cabin in Island Park, Idaho. He was an honest and Christlike example for all who
knew him.



He is survived by his wife, Mary, his son, John Michael (Tamara), his daughter, Stephanie Pike (Oscar) all of Provo, his son, Mark (Karlan) of Sandy, his son, Richard of Northern Calif.; daughter, Kathleen of Spokane, Wash.; and David (Nancy) of Rexburg, Idaho; 30 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, brothers, Lynn S. and Philip L. and sister, Alice Irene Allen, numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Joe, and four sisters, Louise Covey, Helen Richards, Georgia Olson and Lois Hinckley.



Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 17, 1995 at the Grandview 9th Ward Chapel, 1555 North 1350 West, Provo, Utah. Friends may call at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Monday from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, and at the ward chapel in Provo, Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment: Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park in Salt Lake.
