Bernadette "Sandy" Woodlief Hoyle Bolick, 70, of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 28, 2021 at home surrounded by family.
Bernadette was born February 9, 1951 in Smithfield, NC to author, photographer, and journalist Bernadette Parker Woodlief Hoyle and newspaperman and wildlife advocate Macy Livingston Hoyle, Sr. Like her mother, she was an award-winning writer, reporter, and journalist. She wrote and reported for many newspapers, most notably the Asheville Times and Durham Herald Sun. She was a proud Democrat, having covered President Jimmy Carter before and after his Presidential election. After giving birth to her three children, she took up genealogy, documenting countless family trees, cemeteries, and grave sites, in turn helping many to discover their own family roots. She loved nature and wildlife, jazz, The Beatles and The Beach Boys, and cheering on her North Carolina Tarheels. Above all, she was a fiercely proud and loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, and aunt.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, and her brother, Macy Livingston Hoyle, Jr.
She is survived and will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 45 years, Alan Lee Bolick; their three beautiful children, Kelly Hoyle Bolick, Zachary Lee Bolick, and Blair Woodlief Bolick; and her two beautiful nieces, Heather Elizabeth Hoyle Hubbard and Christine Frances Hoyle.
In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated and laid to rest at Larkspur Conservation at Taylor Hollow. A Celebration of Life with friends and family will be held at a later date.
