Bessie Montgomery, Editor's Widow

Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie E. Montgomery, 85, Detroit, the widow of a well-known former newspaper man and utility executive, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Verheyden Funeral Home, 16300 Mack, Grosse Pointe Park. Burial will be in Acacia Park cemetery.

Mrs. Montgomery died Sunday in St. John Hospital. She was the wife of the late Henry A. Montgomery, a legendary editor of the old Detroit Times, former Wayne County clerk and, at the time of his death in 1957, general counsel and head of public relations for the Michigan Consolidated Gas Co.

She was the mother of Harry T. Montgomery, of New York, general manager of the Associated Press, and John O. Montgomery, manager of news relations for the Chrysler Corp. She survived also by eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one sister.

She was a member of the Detroit Athletic Club in the Women's Group of Goodwill Industries. A native of Flint, Mrs. Montgomery was a long-time Detroit resident.
