Burley Hammonds, Sr. of Lumberton, NC, was born June 6, 1945 in Robeson County to the late William Council and Ivory Hammonds and was born into eternity November 10, 2020 at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, completing this journey of 75 years.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Watius Hammonds, Alton Hammonds and a sister Lucille Hunt. Mr. Burley Hammonds was a member of Morning Star Community Church for 5 years. Mr. Burley served his community as a former Police Officer, Fireman and EMS worker in St. Pauls and a Volunteer Fireman for Saddletree. He was also a former worker at Burlington Mills and was a Custodian worker at Piney Grove Elementary School. He enjoyed playing his guitar, singing, fishing and playing with his model train and spending time with his family.

Burley leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 58 years, Shirlene Hammonds of the home; a brother, William David Hammonds (Brenda) of St. Pauls; a sister, Annie Ree Hammonds of Shannon; two daughters and four sons, Anita Fipps (Chris) of Lumberton, Burley Hammonds of Arnegard, North Dakota, Larry Hammonds (Shannon) of St. Pauls, Marlo Shipman (Robert) of St. Pauls, Eric DeWayne Hammonds (Michaela) of Lumberton, Ronnie Glenn Hammonds (Wendy Kay) of St. Pauls, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and two special nieces.
