Professional Football Player. He played at the position of cornerback, for five seasons (1971 to 1975) in the National Football League (or NFL) with the New Orleans Saints. He was born in Austin, Texas, on August 3, 1948, to Bivian Lewis Lee Sr. and his wife Mamie Bellfield Lee. He was educated locally and attended Emile High School in Bastrop, Texas, where he excelled in both basketball and football from 1961 to 1965, and at Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas, where he played collegiate football for the Prairie View A&M Panthers from 1966 to 1970. He holds several sports records at Emile High School in Bastrop, Texas, and at Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas, including most career interceptions with 21, longest interceptions returned for a touchdown with 105, and most interceptions returned for a touchdown. He was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the 3rd round (54th overall) of the 1971 NFL Draft. During the course of his career, he played in 65 NFL career games, had 3 fumble recoveries, and led the New Orleans Saints in interceptions with four in 1972, and was tied for the team lead with three in 1973. Following the 1975 season, he retired from playing football to raise a family. He was married with two children. On November 14, 1984, he complained of severe stomach pains and was taken to Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he died at the age of 35. His cause of death at first was not found by the chief investigative coroner of Orleans Parish John Gagliano following an autopsy but after further tests were conducted it was determined to be heart arrhythmia brought on by weight loss supplement pills that he had been taking for three months. Following his death, he was buried in Providence Memorial Park in Metairie, Louisiana, where several other famous Louisiana personalities are also laid to rest. His untimely death helped spawn a congressional investigation into dietary supplements. In 1985, his wife, Cynthia testified before the United States Congress on behalf of her late husband. His son, Bivian Lewis "Sonny" Lee III later established the Son of a Saint Sports Foundation in his memory. For his contributions to the sport of football, he was posthumously inducted into the Bastrop Sports Hall of Fame in Bastrop, Texas, in 2016.
