Longtime Alaska resident Margery "Margie" H. Borders, born on Sept. 25, 1925, in Moorcroft, Wyo., died on July 8, 2021, in Anchorage, Alaska.
She lived her early years in Washington, where she met Bud, the love of her life. She married at 16, and worked with Brooks Photography and Boeing before moving to Alaska in 1953, with her young family, and later retired from the USPS. As a member of ARCODA racing association, she and Bud became a home away from home for many young military men stationed so far from their own families. They provided love, guidance and her wonderful home cooked meals. Those years grew friendships that continued across decades. They visited these friends during their retirement years of motorhoming. Margie loved fishing, hunting, car racing, sewing and traveling, but her greatest love was her family.
Her husband of 68 years, Glenn A. "Bud" Borders, preceded her in death in 2010. Her parents, Wm. D. and Hazel S. Hunter also preceded her homecoming.
She is survived by her only brother, Wm. W. Hunter of Tacoma, Wash., and his family; and by her five children, Kathy Northcutt, Christy Lowe, Vicki Perkins (Ron), Jim Borders and Bill Borders (Charmaine); 15 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. We will forever cherish our memories and miss our beloved matriarch, Margie Borders.
Her family appreciates the loving care received from 3 Angels Assisted Living Home and Ancora Hospice. Final arrangements provided by Legacy Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be held on her 96th birthday at Russian Jack Chalet, Sept. 25, 2021, at 2 p.m.
