Born in York, PA to John Seiffert and Mary Magdalene Reinecke Strine, he worked most of his life for bakeries. After relocating to Baltimore he worked for his cousin at Becker Bakery which made pretzels, and later as a loading dock foreman, checker, and night manager for Schmidt's bakery. He was the first scoutmaster in Baltimore. He married Anna Louise Yessler, also of York, PA, and they had 4 children, 3 of whom reached adulthood. He is buried next to his wife.
