Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11am, Nov. 23 at Forbis & Dick Funeral Home, 1118 North Elm St. in Greensboro. The family will receive visitors one hour before the service.
Burial will be at Wesley Chapel UMC, 277 Pino Rd., Mocksville, NC with a brief graveside service.
A native of Davie County, she was the daughter of the late Flavious and Zella Ward Ferebee, the eighth child of eleven. Maxine graduated from Mocksville High School in 1945 and went to Hollingsworth Business School in Charlotte. She worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 34 years. She was an active member of the Congregational United Church of Christ and volunteered for the Red Cross and Meals on Wheels. She was an active member of National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. She was an honorary member of the Marine Core League in Greensboro. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, golf, tennis and helping people whenever the opportunity arose.
In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Heather Espitia; brothers: John Ferebee, Tom Ferebee, Bill Ferebee and Joe Ferebee; sisters: Virginia Harris, Carolyn Holt, Amanda (Bunny) Wilkinson, Annie Lois (Polly) Simpson, Lue Bailey and Katherine Loudermilk.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Jo Pruett; grandson, Bryan Jenkins (Lauren); Great-granddaughters, Veronica Espitia (Mario) and Hailey Jenkins; Great-grandsons: Jason and Braylin Jenkins; Great-great-granddaughter, Jianna Victoria Espitia; Great-great-grandson Alex Lopez; multiple nieces and nephews. Special thanks to all of Maxine's friends she made through the years that she held so dear.
