He also worked as public service assistant for the St. Johns County Sheriffs office. He was of the Baptist faith
Private service will be held with burial at Fla. National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn Carnes: three daughters, Kathy (Kevin) Kelshaw, Lorraine (Bud) Allen, Carol (Randy) Dickerson; one son, Michael (Kellee) Carnes, all of St. Augustine, and grandchildren Christy Ashford, Eric Alligood, Kaitlyn Kelshaw, Anna and Chris Carnes.
